Today we had a very rare "snow day". So another Mom and I decided to take our kids sledding. We are some of the very few Dallasites with a true sled. No leftover pool tubes for us! Nope, we put our children on this death trap. This was taken before we ventured down hill. Look how happy everyone is!! (Well, except for T who seemed to know this was not such a good idea.)
Well, we took some pics of the kids, and then we decided that we would put two on at a time. This being Dallas, and thus never being able to properly sled down a hill, we assumed the steepest route possible would be best. Were we wrong.
Our first mistake was underestimating the power of a hill of ice. The second mistake, that the nearly 100lbs. of our bitties could produce such speed, so quickly. Well, gave J a quick lesson about turning so he would miss any trees. Then we intentionally gave the sled a very hard push at the very top of a very long hill.
Everything started out pretty well, they were coasting along and we were trotting beside them taking pictures with our phones... Then before we knew it, they were off! And I mean fast! We were running full blast to try and reach them before they reached the end of the hill, and a road. Well, thank goodness for grass. J accidentally steered into it and they came to an abrupt halt. Whew! Mommy friend and I collapsed on the ground laughing and crying at the same time.
At this point, T, who had been on the back of this ride was DONE. She was cold, and she wanted out of this craziness!! I took her home, and Mommy friend took J and her kiddo, B to the top of a hill with a field of grass in front to stop them. Lessons learned.
Oh, and BTW, as I write this it is 20 degrees with a wind chill of 4. That is unheard of in Dallas!! I guess our Superbowl Fans brought the weather with them.
